  • If someone else is playing from the tee, do not tee the ball until he/she has played.
  • Always stand still and to the side rather than behind another player when he/she is playing.
  • Do not talk while a playing partner is hitting.
  • Be ready to play when it is your turn, ready golf.
  • When you are playing slow or looking for a lost ball, ask the group behind you to play through, so you do not slow everyone down.
  • Write down scores on the way to the next hole, not on the green you are leaving.
  • Never take more than one practice swing.
Safety First
  • Make sure no one is near you when you swing.
  • Look to see that no one is in front of you while you are trying to hit a shot.
  • Make sure no one is standing in a spot where your shot could hit them.
Taking Care of the Course
  • Always rake bunkers after you have played from them
  • Replace all divots.
  • Fix ball marks on the greens. Make sure to push the outer edges of the mark into the center, never lift up because it will tear the roots. "Always fix yours plus one more."

Rules to Remember

Rule #1 - The Game
  • The holes on the golf course must be played in order 1 thru 9, 10 thru 18, or 1 thru 18.
  • You must always play by the Rules. You are not allowed to change them
Rules #2 & #3 - Clubs and the Ball
  • You may only carry 14 clubs or less in your bag.
  • Normally, you may not change balls during the play of a hole. However, if you damage or cut your ball, you may change the ball after first asking your opponent or playing partner.
Rule #4 - Things a Player Should Do
  • Read the notices given to you by tournament officials.
  • Always use your proper handicap.
  • Know your tee time or starting time.
  • Make sure you play your own ball (put markings on it so you can identify it)
  • In stroke play, make sure your score for each hole is correct before turning in your scorecard.
  • When you see lightning immediately come off the course.
Rule #5 - Practice
  • You may not hit a practice shot while playing a hole, or from any hazard. Always read the local rules about practice.
Rule #6 - When Playing a Shot
  • The player who had the lowest score on the last hole has the right to play first on the next hole. This is call "honor".
  • While playing a hole, the player whose ball is farthest from the hole plays first.
  • In match play, if you play out of turn, your opponent may make you replay the shot.
Other Rules...
  • Out of bounds - If a player hit his/her ball out of play they must rehit and be penalized for stroke and distance.
  • Unplayable lie - A player cannot hit their shot, they must take a penalty shot and drop within two club length.
  • Ball in the a water hazard. The player can hit it with no penalty, drop within two club lengths, or come back to the original point.
  • A ball comes to rest in an area marked ground under repair, he/she may drop with no penalty, no closer to the hole.
